Mediation Skills and Techniques Workshop via Physical and Online for the Judiciary was held on 7th–8th September 2022 (Wednesday-Thursday) at the Room Sapphire 1, Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC), Kuala Lumpur. The objective of this workshop was to ensure that all members of the Judiciary can acts as mediators who have the foundation of mediation skills according to correct and effective techniques.

A total of 24 participants consisting of 13 High Court Judges, and 11 Judicial Commissioners were attended this workshop. This workshop was also attended by The Honourable Datuk Vernon Ong Lam Kiat, Federal Court Judge cum Chairman of the Training Commitee, Judicial Academy.

This two-day workshop was officiated by YBhg. Tan Sri Datuk Suriyadi bin Halim Omar, Director, Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC). This workshop was conducted by two speakers; Mrs. Gunavathi Subramaniam, a lawyer and part-time lecturer in the field of Alternative Dispute Resolutions at the Universiti of Malaya, and Mr. Chia Loong Thye, cerified Adjudicator at AIAC since 2016. The lecture topics involved in this workshop are such as Mediation Styles, Negotiation Exercise and Debrief, Negotiation Princples and Styles, The Facilitative Mediation Process Model, Mediation Demonstration and De-brief, Judicial-led-mediation, Mediator Skills, Communication Skills, and Communication Barriers.
