“The Evolving Landscape of Capital Markets Regulation” Course was held on 15th October 2024 at the Sama-Sama Hotel, KLIA, Sepang, Selangor. The objective of this course was to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the dynamic and evolving regulatory frameworks that govern capital markets. This course was organized in collaboration between the Judicial Academy of Malaysia and the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC).
The one-day course began with an opening remark by YBhg. Dato’ Mohammad Faiz Azmi, Executive Chairman, SC. The course then continued with five lecture sessions in the morning. The course consisted of lectures entitled “Overview of the SC: History, Role and Functions” which was delivered by YBrs. Puan Yew Yee Tee, Executive Director and General Counsel, SC; “SC Regulatory Framework” which was delivered by YBrs. Tuan Anil Joshi Hari Chand, Deputy Director and Head, Law Reform, SC; “Emerging Trends in Capital Market Breaches” which was delivered by YBrs. Tuan Jawahar Ali Ameer Ali, General Manager and Head, Consumer and Investor Office, SC; “Introduction to Digital Assets and Digital Asset Exchanges Regulated by the SC” which was delivered by YBrs. Dr. Wong Huei Ching, Executive Director, Digital Strategy and Innovation, SC; and “Regulator’s Role in Supervision of Digital Asset Exchanges Regulated by the SC” which was delivered by YBrs. Puan Nurfazrina binti Daing Abdul Rahman, Deputy General Manager, Institution Supervision, SC.
Meanwhile in the afternoon, the course continued with a Panel Discussion on “The Role of the Courts and Regulators in Ensuring Market Integrity: Contemporary Issues and Challenges” moderated by YBrs. Tuan Budiman Lutfi Mohamed, Enforcement Director, SC. The panellists for the Panel Discussion were The Honourable Datuk Wong Kian Kheong, Judge of the Court of Appeal; The Honourable Puan Roz Mawar binti Rozain, Judicial Commissioner High Court of Kuala Lumpur; YBrs. Puan Shoba Venu Gobal, General Manager and Head, Prosecution and Civil Enforcement, SC; and YBrs. Puan Noraiza binti Kamarudin, General Manager and Head, Investigation, SC. The Honourable Dato’ Sri Hasnah binti Dato’ Mohammed Hashim, Federal Court Judge cum the Chairman of the Training Committee, Judicial Academy Malaysia delivered the closing remarks at the end of the course.
A total of 65 participants attended this course including The Right Honourable Tun Tengku Maimun binti Tuan Mat, Chief Justice of Federal Court, Malaysia, four Federal Court Judges, six Judges of the Court of Appeal, 32 High Court Judges, and 22 Judicial Commissioners.
