  • Appointment New Chief Justice, President of The Court of Appeal, and Chief Judge of the High Court in Sabah and Sarawak 11 July 2018

    Ceremony to Receive letter of Appointment from His Majesty the Yang Di Pertuan Agong was held on 11 July 2018 at the National Palace. The ceremony was then followed by the Swearing-In and Allegiance by Chief Justice of The Federal Court in front of Majesty the Yang Di Pertuan Agong.

    All members of the Judicial Appointments Commission congratulated all the appointees:

    The Right Honourable Yang Amat Arif Tan Sri Rohana binti Yusuf was born in Bachok, Kelantan on 9th May 1956. Her Ladyship obtained her LLB degree from University of Malaya in 1980, Diploma in Syariah Law and Legal Practice (DSLP) from International Islamic University Malaysia in 1992 and Master of Comparative Laws (MCL) from International Islamic University Malaysia in 1993.

    Her Ladyship began her career in the Legal and Judicial Services in 1980 as an Assistant Parliamentary Draftsman at the Drafting Division of the Attorney General’s Chambers, as a Legal Adviser at the Ministry of Defence in 1982 and later in 1986 as a Senior Federal Counsel at the Attorney General’s Chambers. Subsequently, Her Ladyship served as a Sessions Judge Court at Kuala Lumpur. Her Ladyship opted for retirement in Judicial and Legal Services after 18 years in service.

    Her Ladyship joined a private sector in 1997 as a Legal Adviser and Company Secretary at Kumpulan UCM Industrial Corporation Berhad and Legal Adviser and Company Secretary at International Bank Malaysia Berhad.

    Her Ladyship used to practice as an advocate and solicitor and was a partner of Messrs. GH Tee & Co. in 2000. Before joining the judiciary, Her Ladyship was a Deputy Director of Islamic Banking and Takaful Department, Central Bank of Malaysia from 2001 to 2005.

    On 1st September 2005, Her Ladyship was appointed as a Judicial Commissioner of the High Court of Malaya at Kuala Lumpur. On 11th April 2007, Her Ladyship was elevated as a Judge of the High Court of Malaya at Kuala Lumpur.

    On 8th January 2013, Her Ladyship was appointed as a Judge of the Court of Appeal. On 27th April 2018, Her Ladyship was appointed as a Judge of the Federal Court.

    On 25th November 2019, Her Ladyship was designated by the Right Honourable Chief Justice to exercise the powers and perform the duties of the President of the Court of Appeal and on th 5th of December, Her Ladyship was appointed as the President of the Court of Appeal. On August 17th 2020, Her Ladyship was then conferred with Darjah Panglima Setia Mahkota which brings the tittle 'Tan Sri'.

    Her Ladyship is blessed with two children, Nor Alina binti Azmi and Mohamad Rizal bin Azmi.

    Yang Amat Arif Tan Sri Rohana binti Yusuf dilahirkan di Bachok, Kelantan pada 09 Mei 1956. Yang Amat Arif Tan Sri lulus dalam bidang pengajian undang-undang dengan memperolehi LLB (Hons) dari Universiti Malaya pada tahun 1980, Diploma Undang-Undang dan Amalan Guaman Syariah (DSLP) dari Universiti Islam Antarabangsa pada tahun 1992, dan Master of Comparative Laws (MCL) dari Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia pada tahun 1993.

    Yang Amat Arif Tan Sri telah memulakan kerjaya dalam Perkhidmatan Kehakiman dan Perundangan pada tahun 1980 sebagai Penolong Penggubal, Undang-Undang (Parlimen) di Jabatan Peguam Negara, dan kemudian pada tahun 1982 sebagai Pegawai Undang-Undang di Kementerian Pertahanan, dan seterusnya pada tahun 1986 sebagai Peguam Kanan Persekutuan di Jabatan Peguam Negara. Kemudiaan Yang Amat Arif Tan Sri memegang jawatan sebagai Hakim Mahkamah Sesyen di Kuala Lumpur. Yang Amat Arif Tan Sri telah bersara secara pilihan dalam perkhidmatan Kehakiman dan Perundangan selepas 18 tahun berkhidmat.

    Yang Amat Arif Tan Sri mula memasuki sektor swasta pada tahun 1997 sebagai Penasihat Undang-Undang dan Setiausaha Syarikat, di Kumpulan UCM Industrial Corporation Berhad, dan sebagai Penasihat Undang-Undang dan Setiausaha Syarikat di International Bank Malaysia Berhad.

    Yang Amat Arif Tan Sri juga pernah mengamal undang-undang sebagai Rakan Kongsi di Tetuan GH Tee & Co pada tahun 2000. Sebelum menyertai Badan Kehakiman, Yang Amat Arif Tan Sri bertugas sebagai Timbalan Pengarah di Perbankan Islam Dan Takaful, Bank Negara Malaysia pada tahun 2001 hingga 2005.

    Yang Amat Arif Tan Sri telah dilantik sebagai Pesuruhjaya Kehakiman Mahkamah Tinggi Malaya di Kuala Lumpur pada 1 September 2005 dan seterusnya sebagai Hakim Mahkamah Tinggi Malaya di Kuala Lumpur, pada 11 April 2007.

    Yang Amat Arif Tan Sri telah dilantik sebagai Hakim Mahkamah Rayuan pada 08 Januari 2013 dan pada 27 April 2018, Yang Amat Arif Tan Sri telah dilantik sebagai Hakim Mahkamah Persekutuan.

    Pada 25 November 2019, Yang Amat Arif Tan Sri telah dilantik untuk menjalankan Kuasa-kuasa dan Tugas-tugas Presiden Mahkamah Rayuan dan pada 5 Disember 2019, Yang Amat Arif Tan Sri telah dilantik sebagai Presiden Mahkamah Rayuan. Pada 17 Ogos 2020, Yang Amat Arif Tan Sri telah dikurniakan dengan Darjah Panglima Setia Mahkota yang membawa gelaran 'Tan Sri'.

    Yang Amat Arif Tan Sri dikurniakan 2 orang cahaya mata, Nor Alina binti Azmi dan Mohamad Rizal bin Azmi.
