  • “READING OF STATUTES” COURSE

    The “Reading of Statutes” course was held on 29th February 2024 (Thursday) at the Conference Hall of Palace of Justice, Putrajaya. The course objective was to enhance skill of statute reading among the Judicial Commissioners. This one-day programme involved lecture which were delivered by YBhg. Datuk Nor Bee binti Ariffin, former of Judge of the Court of Appeal. Meanwhile, The Honourable Dato’ Sri Hasnah binti Dato’ Mohammed Hashim, Federal Court Judge cum Chairman of the Training Academy, Judicial Academy delivered a Course Briefing before the lecture started. A total of 29 participants consisted of all of whom were Judicial Commissioners had attended the programme.

  • Induction Programme for Judicial Commissioners 10th-12th January 2024

    "Induction Programme for Judicial Commissioners" was held on 10th-12th January 2024 (Wednesday-Friday) at the Conference Hall, Palace of Justice, Putrajaya. This programme aimed to expose the participants to the scope and areas of work and best practices that must be adhered to when fulfilling their duties and responsibilities as Judicial Commissioners.

    A total of 16 candidates who have been appointed as Judicial Commissioners attended this course, including The Honourable Tuan Mohamad Haldar bin Abdul Aziz, The Honourable Dato’ Faridz Gohim bin Abdullah, The Honourable Puan Indra Nehru a/p Savandiah, The Honourable Puan Roszianayati binti Ahmad, The Honourable Tuan Yusrin Faidz bin Yusoff, The Honourable Tuan Moses Susayan, The Honourable Dato’ Raja Rozela binti Raja Toran, The Honourable Puan Arziah binti Mohamed Apandi, The Honourable Dato’ Hazizah binti Kassim, The Honourable Tuan Kan Weng Hin, The Honourable Tuan Mohd Rosli bin Yusoff, The Honourable Tuan Gan Techiong, The Honourable Puan Suriyati Hasimah binti Mohd Hashim, The Honourable Puan Maslinda @ Linda binti Mohd Ainal, The Honourable Tuan Saiful Azian bin Mokhtar and The Honourable Dr. Hazlina binti Hussain.

    The course began with an opening remarks delivered by The Right Honourable Tun Tengku Maimun binti Tuan Mat, Chief Justice of Malaysia, followed by a course briefing by The Honourable Dato’ Sri Hasnah binti Dato’ Mohammed Hashim, the Federal Court Judge and the Chairman of the Training Committee, Judicial Academy Malaysia. This three-day course was conducted in lectures and was followed by a question and answer session. A total of 14 topics were presented by senior judges entitled “Session with Chief Judge of Malaya”, “Judge Craft”, “Recusal”, “Case Management”, “Session with Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak”, “Interlocutory Applications and Special Procedures”, “Judges’ Code of Ethics”, “Conducting Appeals”, “Family Law”, “Judicial Review”, “Mediation”, “How to Conduct Virtual Hearings (Full Trial and Interlocutory Applications)”, “Judgment Writing” and “Criminal Trials and Applications”. Lecture entitled "Salaries, Allowances and Benefits of Judges" were presented by YBhg. Datuk Shahrul Kamal bin Osman, Director of Management Division, Office of the Chief Registrar, Federal Court of Malaysia.

  • Meeting of Judicial Appointments Commission held on 19th January 2024 at Hilton Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

    The 1st Meeting of Judicial Appointments Commission was held on 19th January 2024 (Friday) at Hilton Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. This meeting was the first monthly meeting which was held outside from Putrajaya in 2024. This meeting was held in conjunction with the "Opening of the Legal Year of Sabah and Sarawak 2024" which was held in the morning on the same day at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), Kota Kinabalu. A parade that started from the Hakka Hall, Kota Kinabalu and ended at the SICC, Kota Kinabalu was held in conjunction with the "Opening of the Legal Year of Sabah and Sarawak 2024". The parade was led by The Right Honourable Tun Tengku Maimun binti Tuan Mat, Chief Justice of Federal Court; The Right Honourable Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abang Iskandar bin Abang Hashim, President of the Court of Appeal; The Right Honourable Tan Sri Dato’ Mohamad Zabidin bin Mohd Diah, Chief Judge of the High Court in Malaya; and The Right Honourable Tan Sri Dato’ Abdul Rahman bin Sebli, Chief Judge of the High Court in Sabah and Sarawak.

  • The “Cryptocurrency and Money Laundering @ Navigating the Realm of Fintech and Financial Crimes Course, 9th August 2024

    The “Cryptocurrency and Money Laundering @ Navigating the Realm of Fintech and Financial Crimes Course” was held on 9th August 2024 (Friday) at the Sasana Kijang, Central Bank of Malaysia. The objective of this course was toward better understanding of cryptocurrency and money laundering.

    This course was begun with a welcoming address by Datuk Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour, Governor Central Bank of Malaysia. This course includes three sessions in which the first two sessions are in the form of lectures, while the last session is in the form of panel discussion. The first session of the lecture namely “Developments in the Digitalisation of Finance” was delivered by Mr. Ian Lee Wei Xiung, Deputy Director, Central Bank of Malaysia. Ms. Norasyikin Mohamad Razali, Deputy Director, Central Bank of Malaysia; and Mr. Doulos Paul Lee, Manager, Central Bank of Malaysia delivered a lecture on “Evolution of Digital Assets” in the second session. Meanwhile the third session was a “Panel Discussion on the Role of Judges and Prosecutors in Tackling Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing (ML/TF): Experiences, Challenges and Best Practices” which was divided into three parts with Mr. Suhaimi Ali, Assistant Governor, Central Bank of Malaysia acted as moderator. The first part of the panel discussion was on “Unmasking the Shadows: Understanding the Evolving ML/TF Risks in Malaysia” with Mr. Abd. Rahman Abu Bakar, Assistant Governor, Central Bank of Malaysia who has taken on the role of a panelist. As for the second part, the discussion was about “Unravelling Evidentiary Challenges in ML/TF Investigation and Prosecution” with Dato’ Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar, Head, Appellate and Trial Division, Attorney General’s Chambers as a panelist. The Honourable Dato’ Nordin Hassan, Federal Court Judge; and The Honourable Dato’ Ahmad Fairuz Zainol Abidin, High Court Judge has been the panelists of the third part of the discussion namely “Landmark Money Laundering Cases: Navigating through Challenges”. The course ended with closing remarks delivered by Dato’ Marzunisham Omar, Deputy Governor, Central Bank of Malaysia.

    A total of 78 participants attended this course consisted The Right Honourable Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat, Chief Justice of Federal Court, Malaysia; The Right Honourable Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abang Iskandar Abang Hashim, President of the Court of Appeal, Malaysia; The Right Honourable Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Sebli, Chief Judge of the High Court in Sabah and Sarawak; eight Federal Court Judges; 19 Judges of the Court of Appeal; 37 High Court Judges; and 11 Judicial Commissioners.
